If you're starting university soon, you might be moving away and leaving your current band. But don't fear freshers, there will be plenty of musicians around for you to make new music with... you just have to find them.

Here are 5 bands that met while at university:

1 - Originally called Smile, Queen members Brian May and bass player Tim Staffell met at Imperial college and soon asked Roger Taylor, studying dentistry, to join as drummer. Freddie Mercury joined too and after a name change and a bassist change to John Deacon, Queen were formed.

2 - Formed after most of the band met in prep school, The Strokes were complete when Albert Hammond Jr. met Julian Casablancas in Switzerland and moved in with him later to study in New York. After gaining a following playing in the city, The Strokes soon found success.

3 - All four members of Alt-J met at Leeds University, where three of them studied art. Unable to play drums or bass in their uni halls, their sound comes from attempts to keep noise at a minimum.

4 - Attributing their cult success to being played on their college radio, all of the members of R.E.M went to the University of Georgia in 1980, choosing their name randomly in the dictionary. Michael Stipe and co eventually dropped their studies and concentrated on the band, until the decision was made to end it in 2011.

5 - Trio London Grammar met at Nottingham University in 2009. They formed the band after guitarist Dan saw a picture on Facebook of frontwoman Hannah holding a guitar, and asked her if she wanted to play together. Soon, drummer and keyboard player Dot from the year below came on board and the band moved down to the capital where they take their name from.
