9-year-old scoops top musical prize
Harvey Lin, from Bracknell, was named the Young Pianist of the North at an event in Newcastle securing the accolade after wowing judges with his impressive tinkling of the ivories, Bracknell News reports.
The youngster beat off competition from entrants from the likes of China, Azerbaijan and Sweden and has been described as an "extreme talent" by his tutor at the Windsor Piano School.
Edita Stankeviciute told the news provider: "No-one pushes him or puts pressure on him, he will just practice for hours in the evenings, at weekends, whenever he gets a chance. It's rare to find that kind of commitment from someone that age."
Harvey previously reached the second round of the BBC Young Musician of the Year and also won the Woodley Music Festival class.
His success echoes that of six-year-old Ahana Hedge, from Kingsbury, with The Brent & Kilburn Times reporting her collection of four awards at the Ruislip Northwood Festival and Ealing Festival of Music, Dance and Speech in November.
