Adele: Amy Winehouse paved the way
British singing sensation Adele has paid tribute to Amy Winehouse on her blog saying she 'paved the way' for artists like her.
Winehouse, who was defined by her one of a kind soulful voice and penchant for old-style music, was, as Adele has become, a successful artist whose music found resonance even though it didn't fit in with the trend.
Adele wrote that Winehouse made music simply because that was what she loved doing, possessing a natural talent that "she knew she was capable of and didn't even need to try" and perfect.
She was, simply, born to be a musician.
Adele, who has had to temporarily put down her microphone to let her voice heal, said: "Amy paved the way for artists like me and made people excited about British music again whilst being fearlessly hilarious and blasé about the whole thing.
"I don’t think she ever realised just how brilliant she was and how important she is, but that just makes her even more charming."
Winehouse passed away at the weekend at the tragically early age of 27, joining a list of unforgotten heroes of music who also died at that very same age, including Kurt Cobain, Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin.
