Amy fan Jay-Z
Jay-Z thinks Amy Winehouse revitalised British music.
The '99 Problems' hitmaker - who has his own Roc Nation music business - believes the troubled 'Back to Black' star is the main reason why a succession of new UK artists have become successful.
He said: "There's a strong push coming out of London right now which is great.
He said: "It's been coming ever since, I guess, Amy Winehouse. I mean always, but I think Amy, this resurgence was ushered in by Amy, that's how I see it."
However, the rapper - who says 'Tears Dry On Their Own' is his favourite Amy track - is worried her well-publicised addiction problems will overshadow her career.
He added to BBC Radio 1: "I'm just praying she doesn't turn into Lauryn Hill and we never get another album".
Jay-Z has already signed the Sugababes and Ting Tings to Roc Nation and now has his eye on other British stars - though refused to confirm speculation he wants to sign 'Fight for This Love' singer Cheryl Cole.
However, he added: "Cheryl Cole, I saw her at the BRITs. She's had a big production. I don't know, I have no idea but we'll figure it out soon though."
Jay-Z has just announced he will play three UK shows this summer - in Manchester, Birmingham and London - and he is looking forward to visiting one city in particular.
He said: "Manchester is the place where Kanye West brought me the tracks for 'Blueprint 3', so there's a little connection there."Posted on 18 Feb 2010 16:30 to category : Music News
