Anna Friel learns guitar for West End play
Anna Friel may be better known as an actress than an acoustic guitar player, but it seems she has hidden musical talents.
The former Brookside and Pushing Daisies star is currently appearing as Holly Golightly in a West End production of Truman Capote's Breakfast At Tiffany's.
However, the play includes a section in which the character is required to strum a guitar.
Fortunately for Friel, playing a musical instrument is a family tradition, so she picked up the basics fairly easily.
"My dad's a great guitarist and my brother," she commented.
"I've got that in my blood I think."
She added that before the production began, she practised on the guitar every day for five weeks.
The 33-year-old has been keen to stress that this production of Breakfast At Tiffany's has been more heavily influenced by the original novel rather than the famous 1961 movie.
As a result, her character's appearance has been designed to resemble the description in Capote's story rather than the iconic look sported by Audrey Hepburn in the film version.
