Apple launches new music service
It has just launched iTunes Match, a cloud-based system that allows users to open up their digital libraries to Apple, which then replaces certain songs for better ones.
The songs it swaps – by scanning a person's online library – tend to be illegal downloads which are generally of a poorer quality.
However, it also replaces tracks that have been ripped from CDs – all for better quality ones.
Music lovers interested in the service have to pay £21.99 annually to use iTunes Match.
Industry experts have viewed the move as a positive step forward and a clever way to make money back.
Speaking to the BBC, Paul Smernicki, director of digital music at Universal Music UK, said: "We believe it creates a great and seamless experience for music buyers that will ultimately see increased sales and digital conversion."
It is rumoured that Apple will launch the third generation iPad in the spring of 2012.
The device is said to be thinner and comes with a new high resolution "retina display" screen.
