Arctic Monkeys named best new band of the decade
Sheffield guitar band Arctic Monkeys have been named the best new act of the decade.
The Yorkshire four-piece did not release their first single until 2005, but three number one albums since then persuaded the Observer to give them the title.
The combination of Turner's clever lyrics and the typically English indie guitar sound of the songs has ensured Arctic Monkeys have managed to obtain the rare combination of critical acclaim and commercial success.
Their debut album Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not featured in the top five of album of the decade lists published by both NME and the Guardian.
It also set the record for the biggest ever first-week sales for a debut album on its release in 2006.
Leona Lewis subsequently broke the record, although she looks set to lose it to another TV talent show contestant, Susan Boyle, this week.Posted on 29 Nov 2009 15:00 to category : Band / Celebrity News
