Auditioning guitarists 'should be creative'
Electric guitar players who have applied for a professional job in a touring band should not be afraid of contributing to creative discussions as they audition.
This is according to acclaimed guitarist Arlen Roth, who used his Gibson Lifestyle blog to explain first impressions are highly important to securing a gig.
He recalled the time he had been hired by Art Garfunkel, who later told Roth he had known from the minute he had walked into the rehearsal room he wanted to work with him.
"Be sure of yourself and don't be afraid to speak your mind and to contribute creatively to the music at hand," the electric guitar player went on to advise auditioning musicians.
"When it really feels right and justified, be sure to let your creative juices flow."
Roth said this will show the artist or band you want to work with that you can think on your feet and make good musical decisions.
The star has a wealth of experience in the industry, having worked in it for four decades and earning a host of plaudits along the way for his skills on the electric guitar.
