Avenged Sevenfold lose drummer Mike Portnoy
Musician Mike Portnoy has announced his time behind the drum kit with Avenged Sevenfold has come to an end.
Writing on his personal website, Portnoy explained the rest of the band had made the decision to bring in a fresh face for 2011 and his departure at the end of this year had previously been agreed upon.
The drummer thanked Avenged Sevenfold and their fans for the memorable times he enjoyed as a member of the group.
"I had an awesome time on stage with the guys every night and have so many cool memories from the experience with them," he said.
Portnoy added he is excited about what his future may bring in the world of music and said he hoped to have the chance to work with some of the people in the industry he admires.
Avenged Sevenfold may have to move fairly quickly to find a replacement for the drummer as they have a number of tour dates coming up in early 2011.
The first two months of the year will see the group play a host of shows in different US states, with gigs planned in cities including Baltimore, Cincinnati and Detroit.
