Avid Pro Tools - Pro Mixing Without Limits

Avid Pro Tools - Pro Mixing Without Limits
Clearstory Sound Studio is home to John Rodd
Avid's four-part video series Pro Mixing Without Limits features John Rodd, recording, mixing and mastering engineer who's worked on some of the most memorable projects of the last two decades.

What is it about engineering that's so interesting for Rodd? "I enjoy being part of the storytelling team. My mixes are always different, the music's always different, the films are always different."

Rodd talks about how he started out in the industry, providing useful tips to budding recording engineers.

He started out on 20th Century Fox's film scoring stage and moved onto games scores including World of Warcraft, Assassin's Creed and Call of Duty.

Rodd makes sure he stays ahead of the game with the gear and techniques he uses. "I read a lot of trade magazines, journals and articles," he says, "I'm always researching new gear, new plugins and new techniques."

Rodd's most recent projects have been cult show Breaking Bad and big-budget film Elysium, where he travelled from the States to Abbey Road to record using Avid Pro Tools. "For professional recording in studios, Pro Tools is the standard. When I go to a recording studio, it's going to have Pro Tools".

To find out more about John Rodd's recording techniques, watch the series on the Avid website.
