Banging the drums for a charitable cause
A passionate charity campaigner is drumming his way into the record books in a bid to raise money for a cancer organisation in Burlington.
Steve Gaul has been playing on his drums for 100 hours and will continue until he smashes the current Guinness record, which stands at 120 hours, reported the Toronto Star.
He hasn't just got world records on his mind. Mr Gaul is looking to raise more than $100,000 (£61,533) for the Canadian Cancer Society.
"I’ll beat cancer with my sticks,” he told the newspaper. "I want to push, motivate and inspire Canadians. No one should ever have to go through what I went through."
Mr Gaul was speaking about this own battle with testicular cancer, which he was diagnosed with at the age of 23.
Showing the same fighting spirit that has spurred him on to bang on the drums for 100 hours straight, Mr Gaul beat the disease and has been cancer free for ten years now.
To beat the record for continuous drumming, he has to perform actual songs.
There can only be a maximum of 30 seconds between each song and for every hour played he gets a five-minute break.
The Canadian Cancer Society is an organisation of volunteers whose mission is the eradication of cancer and the enhancement of the quality of life of people living with cancer.
