Bass Guitar Takes to the Road for Charity
The Bass Relay was the idea of members of the BassChat forum, after bassist James Ryan wanted to come up with a way of putting his old bass to good use.
Members of the bass player's forum are taking part in the relay, taking possession of the bass and using it for a gig, in the studio or making a music video before passing it on to another player.
When the bass changes hands, the new player makes a donation in aid of Cancer Research UK, a cause close to the heart of fellow bassist and forum member Milton Graham.
With over 6 months worth of milage, the bass doesn't seem to be slowing down. It's been played by famous bassists Rhino from Status Quo, Yolanda Charles and solo bass guitarist Steve Lawson.
On Wednesday, the bass will make another quick stop in Portsmouth to be passed on to Level 42 bassist Mark King and Andrew Levy of the Brand New Heavies.
Sponsored by Ashdown Engineering, the charity relay has so far raised over £1330. When the relay eventually comes to an end, the bass will be auctioned off along with everything else it's accumlated whilst touring the country.
