Bass guitar players 'are underrated'
Writing for the Examiner, Arturo Carrejo described bass players as the "glue" that holds a song together.
However, he stated that bassists tend to be highly underrated and are "seldom given credit for their important role in a group".
Mr Carrejo said a band without a bass guitar would sound "hollow", as it serves as a bridge between the rhythm and the upfront melody.
Despite their important role, he noted that bassists only tend to stand out when they adopt a flash or stylish way of playing.
Indeed, Paul McCartney and Brian Wilson - bass players in The Beatles and The Beach Boys respectively - both drew high praise for their melodic bass lines when they engaged in a friendly competition during the 1960s.
"Most are content with just laying out a solid foundation on which to build tune after tune," Mr Carrejo added.Posted on 24 Jul 2009 11:12 to category : Instruments News
