Beatles engineer hails Ringo's drumming
Geoff Emerick worked with the Fab Four on many of their most memorable records, including Revolver and Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.
Most of the band's LPs had been recorded on four-track machines, but Abbey Road marked the first time one of their albums was recording on eight tracks.
Speaking to MusicRadar, Emerick said this allowed him to record Ringo's drum kit in a different way, with more mics positioned around the toms in particular.
This, he revealed, changed the way that Ringo played in the studio.
"I think when he heard this, he kind of perked up and played more forcefully on the toms, and with more creativity," Emerick commented.
The Abbey Road album was reissued this week in remastered form, along with all of the Fab Four's other records, including non-album tracks and b-sides.Posted on 11 Sep 2009 16:00 to category : Band / Celebrity News
