Beatles' lyric sheet sells for $1.2 million
A handwritten lyric sheet penned by guitar legend John Lennon has been sold for $1.2 million (£806,000) at an auction in America.
The words to A Day in the Life - one of the group's most famous songs which closed the Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band album - were penned by Lennon back in 1967.
A private American collector was the winner of the item, which brought in around double its estimated value at the auction held at Sotheby's in New York.
David Redden, Sotheby's Books and Manuscripts Department international chairman, said: "The outstanding price achieved for these handwritten lyrics is testament to the iconic status of The Beatles, John Lennon and especially this song."
