BitTorrent goes straight to end piracy link
The company, made up of software brands BitTorrent and µTorrent, moves between 20 and 40 per cent of the world's Internet traffic and has 170 million active users per month.
It is now campaigning hard to be seen as a legitimate company and has paired up with musicians to put together content bundles. Although some artists are wary of being associated with a company so closely linked with piracy.
BitTorrent said: “We do not endorse piracy. We do not encourage it. We don't point to piracy sites. We have, and we will continue to, work tirelessly with industries, artists, and fans to create a sustainable digital future for content,” in a press release last year.
The firm also said that their company had been wrongly linked with piracy for years and they were taking steps to reduce this.
The software, which has been established since 2001, uses a peer-to-peer network to share large files efficiently across the internet. Although the software itself is legal it has been used by people to distribute illegally sourced content.
