Bjork commissions the development of new music instruments
Bjork's impending tour, which coincides with the release of her new studio album Biophilia, is set to be a music extravaganza with the irreverent star commissioning the creation of new music instruments as part of the show.
The kooky star asked the renowned Icelandic organ builder Bjorgvin Tomasson to create a hybrid gamelan-celeste known as the Gamaleste.
This involved replacing the original steel bars of a vintage orchestral celeste with bespoke bronze tonebars, which were handmade by Matt Smith, the UK's only recognised British cymbal smith.
The Icelandic star is really going all-out with her latest album. Her live performances are also set to involve the use of high-tech music software and entertainment systems, a new interactive website, a new documentary and a range of iPad apps.
She recently told Rolling Stone magazine where she gets her inspiration from: "I think I'm probably semi-autistic or something – I'm just obsessed with riddles. It felt like the music industry was off the grid, and I wanted to solve the riddle."
