Blink 182 tackling 'heavy' material
Blink 182 are writing about "lots of heavy stuff" on their new album.
The 'What's My Age Again?' rockers have recently returned to the studio for the first time since their self-titled 2003 album, and frontman Mark Hoppus said their new songs will reflect some of the darker things which have happened to the group's members - including drummer Travis Barker being involved in a plane crash which claimed the life of his friend DJ AM - since they last recorded together.
Mark said: "We've gone through a lot of really heavy stuff over the past few years. There's plenty of heavy stuff to write about. I think in moments it will be dark.
"We're still just barely getting into the whole writing process. We have about three or four songs done. I wouldn't say it's going to be a dark record; I think it's really an expansive record."
Mark added that as the band are still in the initial stages of writing, their sound could undergo some changes, but promised it will reflect the different stages of the band's career, from the toilet humour of their earlier albums to the more brooding, introspective material on their last album.
He added: "There's stuff that sounds like what we were doing on the last Blink record, and there's stuff that sounds like what we were doing ten years ago and stuff that we've never done before."
Blink 182 will also tour the UK in summer 2011.Posted on 15 Dec 2010 16:15 to category : Music News
