Electric guitar band Blur are to bring out a new song.
Great deals on musical instruments

Electric guitar band Blur are to put out their first single in seven years next week, it has been announced.

They will put out a limited edition seven-inch single in support of Record Store Day on April 17th 2010 – a scheme designed to promote the current plight of such shops in the age of downloadable music.

Only 1,000 copies of the track are to go on sale.

Blur's lead singer Damon Albarn told the Sun that the group felt it was important to return to the studio in order to lend their support to the cause.

"We want independent record stores to continue - they're an important part of our musical culture," said Albarn.

"Music is a simple way for Blur to show our support and we hope people like it."

Other artists who are lending their support to the cause include Jack White, Tom Waits and Neil Tennant from the Pet Shop Boys.
