Bob Dylan performs acoustic track at White House event
Bob Dylan pulled out his acoustic guitar to perform The Times They Are A-Changin' in a special event at the White House.
His acoustic guitar performance was part of an annual show celebrating America's civil rights movement and other artists who appeared in front of President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle included Joan Baez, who sang We Shall Overcome.
Smokey Robinson performed Abraham, Martin and John, a cover of a Dick Holler track from 1968, while Yolanda Adams sang a version of Sam Cooke's A Change is Gonna Come.
At the end of the event, President Obama praised all of the performers, stating that the fight for equality in America had been "a movement sustained by music".
Many of Dylan's songs in the 1960s were inspired by the events of the civil rights movement including Oxford Town, a track about the first-ever black student to attend the University of Mississippi.Posted on 11 Feb 2010 22:00 to category : Music News
