Bon Iver stream new album ahead of release
Bon Iver are streaming their second album online ahead of its official release on June 20th 2011.
The self-titled album, a follow up to their debut For Emma, Forever Ago, has ten tracks which all reference locations, which frontman and electric guitar player, Justin Vernon, has described as being about "states of being".
In a candid interview with the Guardian, Vernon explained that his studio, which is full of music instruments – pianos and drum kits in one room, electric guitars and acoustic guitars in another – allows him to be really creative.
Speaking to the newspaper, he said: "For this record, but there were definite days where I felt like well, alright, I'm just going to have to try one of the hundreds of combinations of things in this room right now."
The album reflects this, with lyrics that are much more metaphorical than those on their debut album. It means that listeners really have to engage with the songs to fully understand what the music is about.
Bon Iver was first conceived five years ago when Vernon left his previous band and headed to a secluded cabin in Wisconsin.
Such is their popularity among their music peers, even rap artists Kanye West signed them up to collaborate on his latest album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy.
