Bone crusher acoustic guitar highlight of auction
The Gibson Advance Jumbo Sunburst acoustic guitar was the highlight of the sale. It was a popular instrument in pre-war US.
In total there were 800 bidders for the 534 lots.
Other notable sales included two Fenders: a 1961 Stratocaster and a 1967 Ice Blue Metallic Telecaster; a 1939 Martin D-28 Natural Acoustic Guitar; a 1969 Gibson Super 400 Custom Sunburst Archtop electric guitar; and a 1957 Gibson Les Paul Standard Goldtop, used by Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top.
Mike Gutierrez, consignment director at Heritage Auctions, said: "Quality and rarity were in great abundance throughout this auction and collectors responded with overwhelming enthusiasm, via repeat bidding on multiple lots.
"The positive results are hard to argue with; it's clear we've tapped into a deep collector need."
US rock band ZZ Top are from Texas and known for their hit studio albums Rio Grande Mud, Tres Hombres and Fandango.
Their music has been described as being a mixture of boogie rock, blues rock and southern rock.
