Boy banned from playing drums
An eight-year-old boy who dreams of playing the drums in a band has been banned from using the music instrument by a court after neighbours complained about the noise.
Jack Smith, who has had the drum kit for just under a year now, was so enamoured with his new instrument that he would play it late into the evening.
However, fed up with the noise, his Staffordshire neighbours complained to the local council, which then resulted in his parents being handed a restraining order.
Jack is now banned from playing the drums between 10pm and 9am.
His father, Mr Smith said: "It's bang out of order. Jack’s not going to get any better if they don’t let him practice, is he?"
Residents have welcomed the move to restrict the hours the drums are played.
Council environmental health officers have told the family that if the order is continuously violated, the music instrument could be taken away.
It's not the first time the family has had brushes with the council over excessive noise.
Jack's father has also been banned from playing loud music after residents claimed that he endlessly played Tony Christie's hit Is This The Way To Amarillo.
The title of the song refers to the city of Amarillo in Texas. It was chosen as a destination because the songwriters were looking for a place that rhymed with willow.
