Brian Johnson: Easy riffs are the hardest to write
AC/DC frontman Brian Johnson has stated his belief that it is much more difficult to write an easy guitar riff than a hard one.
In an interview with the New Zealand Herald, the Gateshead born singer suggested that while critics have often attacked some of lead axeman Angus Young's licks for being too simple, real musicians will confirm that coming up with something like the iconic Highway to Hell riff is not an effortless task.
"The easiest riffs in the world are the hardest ones to write, because they are very few," he commented.
"Highway to Hell is easy, but you ask a guitarist, it's not that easy."
Despite the implication that many critics do not recognise Young's efforts, the Gibson SG artist was named in Virgin Media's top ten list of the greatest guitarists ever.
Highway to Hell also frequently appears in countdowns of the best riffs of all time.Posted on 14 May 2009 17:08 to category : Band / Celebrity News
