Busking 'helped KT Tunstall improve her guitar skills'

Busking was a great way for KT Tunstall to make herself better at playing the acoustic guitar.

KT Tunstall was able to improve her abilities on the acoustic guitar after spending some time busking.

Speaking to the Independent, the star explained that she used to regularly sing for passers-by on the streets of Glasgow as she started out on her road to fame.

She said one of the most important aspects of being a busker was that it taught her how to play the guitar while standing up.

"At first I couldn't play standing up, because you learnt guitar sitting down, hunched over, staring at what you're doing," Tunstall explained.

"Now I find it hard playing sitting down."

She added that she has a traditional view of busking, stating that musicians should rely on their voice and their instrument rather than making use of backing tracks and amps when playing on the street.

Tunstall is set to head out on an extensive tour in February, starting off with a number of gigs in Ireland before moving on to several UK dates, in cities such as Newcastle, Manchester and Birmingham.

She will then head to mainland Europe in March, playing shows in Belgium, Holland, France and Germany, while three dates in Japan have also been planned.
