Carl Barat still a Libertine
Carl Barat is adamant The Libertines will continue and that there is "life in the old dog yet".
The band's co-frontman said he is sure the recently reunited group will continue past their triumphant reunion shows which took place in August at the Reading and Leeds festivals, saying they originally had plans in place to write new material around the time of the shows.
He told NME magazine: "It was never the plan to not do anything more. We were going to write new stuff during those rehearsal sessions, we just never came to it. It was never the plan to stop.
"Everyone's agreed at some point in the process that there's life in the old dog yet. When we got back together it was a band again, we hadn't missed a beat."
Carl also said he was so nervous about something going wrong when the band took to the stage again that he had to keep reminding himself to enjoy it.
He added: "It was utterly fulfilling. I was totally nervous. During the gig, I had to stop myself and say, this is perfect.
"Why are you going to ruin it for yourself by wondering why nothing's wrong? But as soon as I snapped out of that, it was like it should be. It was a combination of years of speculation and wonder, not necessarily in my mind, but in so many other minds, of what the band meant, of what this band means."
Carl's self titled debut solo album will be released on October 4.Posted on 22 Sep 2010 16:30 to category : Music News
