Chris Martin applauds The X Factor
The band's frontman Chris Martin revealed he is a big fan of hit TV talent show The X Factor, which is known for churning out manufactured popstars.
His remarks will come as something of a surprise, especially from critics who believe shows like The X Factor are damaging the integrity of music.
However, Martin is known for being his own man and unconcerned with what the media has to say.
In an interview with Absolute Radio, the singer-songwriter said he was grateful for their upcoming performance on the show.
"There's no other TV show, really, except for Later With Jools Holland, that gives you that," he said.
"So we were like, 'Thank you we'd love to'. I understand that there are people who are musically not into it, but I don't agree with them and I say that with all respect. I really love it and I think the music's great."
The X Factor final is next week with Marcus Collins battling against Little Mix and Amelia Lily for the top prize.
