Coldplay: Where's our competition?
When asked by the Daily Mirror whether they thought they were the best of the best of British bands, Chris Martin responded by saying that he thought most groups that would be considered brilliant had already split up.
"Blur have gone, Pulp have gone, Take That are on holiday, we're the only British band left on the pitch! But we'll take that," he said.
The singer-songwriter, who is married to Hollywood actress Gwyneth Paltrow, was subtly attacking the music industry, hinting that he thinks everyone has sold out.
"All we want to do now is release a fragrance, open a few restaurants and open a theme park, JLS-style," he told the newspaper.
He was having a go at musicians who no longer stick to producing music and become "brands" by expanding into other commercial projects.
Martin joined his good pal Noel Gallagher on stage at the Brit Awards, dazzling the audience with his energetic skills behind the piano.
