Coldplay confirmed as Glastonbury headliner
Coldplay will headline the Pyramid Stage on the Saturday night of this year's Glastonbury Festival, Michael Eavis has confirmed.
Chris Martin and co will be making their first appearance at the bash since 2005 and Eavis said he feels the piano player and the rest of the group have a special connection with Glastonbury.
The group made their debut at the festival in 1999 when they played the New Bands Tent, managing to become Pyramid Stage headliners just three years later.
Eavis said Coldplay have had an important part to play in the history of Glastonbury in the past decade or so.
"As their popularity grew around the world I was so proud of them," he stated.
"This is the triumphant return of a band that everyone here feels part of. They're one of the greatest phenomena to grow from these fields."
The group have been booked for a number of international festivals this year already.
Over the course of 2011, Coldplay will play in front of fans in countries including Germany, Italy, Holland, Belgium, France and Spain, as well as travelling to Brazil to perform at Rock in Rio.
