Coxon names favourite electric guitar players
Speaking to BBC 6 Music, the Blur guitarist stated that Townshend "took flight" whenever he had a Les Paul in his hands.
The Who star was praised for having a "really good, aggressive style" and for being able to let his electric guitar wail.
Coxon also named Paul Weller of The Jam as a big influence on his playing and credited him with inspiring him to pick up a guitar for the first time.
"I still find myself doing Weller-isms when I'm playing the electric guitar," he commented.
Coxon added that Weller is a great, passionate and energetic performer who has a "great attitude" on stage.
The comments come shortly after he rejoined the other members of Blur at a series of successful reunion gigs, which included appearances at Hyde Park and the Glastonbury Festival.
