‘Creative development’ boosted by music

Karen Sherr discusses music and youngsters' innate attraction to it.

Many music instrument players, from drums players to pianos players, would say that their instrument offers them a way of being creative, whether they play it professionally or as a hobby.

And it seems that music is able to boost ‘creative development' for younger children, too.

Musicalminis.co.uk's managing director Karen Sherr has said that this is just one of the developmental areas that music is able to give a boost to.

“[This can be by] singing simple songs from memory, recognising repeated sounds and sound patterns, and matching movements to music,” she went on.

She also explained that children's abilities with the likes of literacy and communication are able to be boosted through interaction with songs.

Children have an innate musical attraction, she suggested, while music instruments designed for their use can enhance co-ordination.

“Child-friendly musical instruments help the child to explore sounds and effects, whilst developing control and hand to eye co-ordination,” as she put it.
