Cumbrian music group looking to raise funds for new piano

The group needs to raise over £60,000 for a Steinway piano.
Great deals on musical instruments
A music group based in Cumbria is looking to raise money to purchase a new Steinway piano.

Cockermouth Music Society has launched an appeal to help generate over £60,000 to purchase the instrument after the group's current piano was damaged by flood waters at the United Reformed Church in 2009, the Times & Star reports.

Members of the society said that they want to replace the affected piano with a hand built higher quality Steinway B grade instrument, but while the company provides a 12.5 per cent discount the instrument is still due to cost £63,000.

Susan Allison, secretary of the group, told the news provider: "The more we can raise the more we can put into our bid in partnership funding. We really need to get a piano which is going to last a long time. For the future of the music society and for Cockermouth in general we really need to do this."

The Cumbrian town was badly hit during November 2009 when the rivers Cocker and Derwent both burst their banks sending flood water pouring into the area damaging homes, businesses and the society's building.
