DJ wants to save Manchester club
Developers Olympian Homes have taken over the building that used to host the social club the Twisted Wheel back in the swinging 60s, reported the BBC.
It is now considering a number of options as to what it wants to do with the "iconic" building, with one provisional idea being a massive 330-room hotel.
Twisted Wheel DJ Pete Roberts is dead-set against it, comparing the proposals to convert the building to the destruction of the original Cavern Club in Liverpool.
The DJ told the BBC that once it was knocked down it would mean the end of a long history.
"Liverpool only has a Mickey Mouse Cavern now and the council probably regret ever dropping it.
"We've still got the Manchester Twisted Wheel - once it's gone, it's gone, and there'd be a lot of people crying, none more than me."
Twisted Wheel was one of the first clubs in the UK to begin playing a style of music that would go on to be known as Northern Soul.
