Dave Grohl gets back behind a drum kit
The Foo Fighters frontman decided to help his pals out after Cage and the Elephant's drummer, Jared Champion, burst his appendix.
Grohl, who has been celebrating the 20th anniversary of the release of Nirvana's seminal album Nevermind, will join the band on tour for a brief stint as their drummer.
Speaking to Spin magazine, Lincoln Parrish, guitarist for Cage and the Elephant, said: "I had to pinch myself. I turned around and Dave Grohl is playing the drums. It's an amazing, once-in-a-lifetime experience.
"Nobody can replace Jared. But…it's Dave fucking Grohl. If you're going to be replaced by anybody, it might as well be the best."
He went on to say Grohl was so down-to-earth it was as if they had been lifelong buddies.
Champion, who has undergone surgery, is raring to get back behind the drums and should be back with the band soon.
Nirvana's Nevermind re-entered the British charts at number five, showing there is still a lot of love for Seattle grunge.
