Dave Stewart: Old hits have helped me with Ghost musical
Super-producer Dave Stewart has revealed that he was inspired by his old hits when composing tunes to a new musical based on the hit tearjerker movie Ghost.
Stewart, who likes to rock the electric guitar on stage, wrote in the Independent that his musical version of the film Ghost, which originally starred Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore, had echoes of, for example, the Eurythmics.
He said: "Does it sound like any of my other work? There are definitely sections where you can hear that I have tipped my hat to certain elements of my musical past.
"During the New York bank scene you can hear Eurythmics-style electronica mixed in with real string players."
In a revealing piece for the newspaper, Stewart went on to say that even with his vast experience of making hit records, working with singers and writing for TV and movies, "nothing prepared him for writing songs for musicals".
The 1990 film was known for its raw emotion and such was its power, Stewart felt compelled to invite Bruce Joel Rubin, who penned the original screenplay, to work alongside him on the musical.
He wanted to ensure that the integrity of the film was not compromised.
Stewart has been busy working on new music with his new band Super Heavy, which includes Mick Jagger, AR Rahman, Damian Marley and Joss Stone.
