David Gilmour named in Gibson's top 50 guitarists
The Pink Floyd star has come 41st in the poll, as Gibson revealed the names of the first ten artists to make the list.
"There are few riffers with a purer approach to blues than Gilmour, whose stunning Gold Top essay in Comfortably Numb is one of the greatest solos of the modern era," said the musical instrument manufacturer's website.
It added that Gilmour's varied career has seen him play with the likes of Eric Clapton, Kate Bush and Pete Townshend.
Other names in the top 50 include Kurt Cobain, Richard Thompson and John Frusciante.
Last month, Frusciante was named as the best guitar player of the past 30 years by listeners to BBC 6 Music.
