Don Cheadle: I want to make Miles Davis biopic
Cheadle, who rose to fame in the late 90s and early noughties in movies like Out of Sight, Ocean's Eleven and Hotel Rwanda, told the Wall Street Journal that it hasn't been easy trying to bring the great saxophone player's life to the silver screen.
"It's three to five years average for most movies to get made, but often it's ten or 15 years," he said.
"This is the kind of movie the business ten years ago may have leapt at. But now, you don't really see movies like this. We have a studio offer and we're trying to back into a budget number, like we always have to do, without gutting the piece."
He went on to tell the news provider that it wouldn't be a straight biopic, but focus on what was happening in Davis' life in and around 1979.
I don't think anyone's going to be making the kind of movie we're making," Cheadle said.
"It's not a biopic, per se. It's a gangster pic."
Miles Davis is most famous for his studio album Kind of Blue, which was released in 1959.
