Drummers should protect their ears, says Lars Ulrich
People who are learning to play the drum kit have been advised to take steps to stop their ears from being damaged.
Lars Ulrich of Metallica revealed that earlier in his music career, he used to take to the stage without wearing any form of ear protection.
As a result, he has developed a condition common among rock musicians - tinnitus.
"It's this constant ringing in the ears," he told CNN.
"It never goes away - it never just stops."
Ulrich has therefore urged young people to take preventative measures to avoid developing tinnitus themselves.
He warned that if a person's hearing goes, it is gone permanently and cannot be completely cured.
According to figures from the British Tinnitus Asssociation, about one in ten people in the UK suffer from a mild form of the ear condition.
