Musicians old and young are being asked to wipe off the dust from their music instruments and join a monthly "music marathon" in the Lake District.

Created by local musician Eyemoeba, the "musical feast of sound" occurs at The Ship Inn, in Bowness, the first Friday of every month, reported the Westmorland Gazette.

It doesn't matter whether you play a violin, flute, triangle, oboe or guitar. So long as you have an instrument to bring along, all participants are more than welcome.

Eyemoeba is looking for new ways of getting musicians in the community together, jamming, listening, talking and performing in front of one another.

Speaking to the newspaper, he said that the event had so far been a success but because of the lack of music instruments "it felt very much like a sound check".

He said: "What I am hoping is that eventually we will have a room full of musicians all playing together, so whatever you play we want to see you."

The next session will be held on June 3rd 2011.

If the instrument you find is not the one you remember owning, it could prove to be a valuable antique. A dusty old French horn found in a loft in Norwich was revealed to belong to Nazi German military band the Musikkorps der Leibstandarte SS.
