Earliest Known Fender Stratocaster For Sale
The historic Fender Stratocaster is being sold by Fender historian Richard Smith, who has owned the instrument for over 30 years after purchasing it from the original owner.
Said to be in "fine playing condition", by George Gruhn of Gruhn Guitars in Nashville, Tennessee, the guitar has already had quite a lot of interest from collectors and Fender enthusiasts.
But you'll have to get saving if you want to get your hands on this guitar. Considered to be one of the most popular electric guitars in the world, this first Stratocaster is valued at $250,000, or just over £150,000.
The historic guitar was made in April, 1954, with the first full production run of Fender Strats not filled until October of that year.
A Strat played by Bob Dylan at the Newport Folk Festival recently sold for almost $1 million, but Gruhn says that Stratocaster number 0100 is more important despite not being played by a legend, as it's the first one made and comes with an original case.
