East 17 are back

East 17 have reformed once again.

East 17 have reformed once again – this time without singer Brian Harvey.

Instead, Tony Mortimer, the original singer-songwriter of the band, returns to the line-up.

Last time the band got back together was in 1998, when Harvey, John Hendry and Terry Coldwell reunited, this time calling themselves E-17.

The three original members will this time be joined by Blair Dreelan.

They got back together as early as May 2009 when the multi-instrumentalist Mortimer – he plays piano, guitar, and drums – Hendry and Coldwell decided the time was right for them to start making new music.

Since then, they have been working non-stop on their new album. They will release their new single Secret of My Life in July.

This will be followed by a UK tour as the band set to rekindle the success they had in the early nineties.

At the height of their fame they were seen as a "grittier, more political and hip-hop" group compared to the mum-friendly Take That.

House of Love and It's Alright were two of their biggest and most popular songs, as was their 1994 single Stay Another Day, which topped the singles charts for five weeks and was the Christmas number one that year. It is now seen as a classic Christmas anthem.

The group took their name from the postcode for Walthamstow in the east end of London.
