Elbow to get the dead grooving
Guy Garvey wants to get dead painters and poets "grooving" when Elbow play in St Paul's Cathedral.
The 'Neat Little Rows' group will perform in the crypt of the London landmark on Thursday (26.05.11) and the band's singer and guitarist feels honoured to play at a venue where so many of history's great artists and political figures, such as Admiral Nelson, poet John Donne and architect Sir Christopher Wren are buried.
He told the UK's Absolute Radio: "I think it's great, you know. I've seen some pictures of the room and it should be really special. It's sort of full of columns, obviously supporting the floor of the building above, but there's some pretty famous people interred down there; Nelson's down there.
"Wellington's down there; John Donne, the poet, is down there; Turner, the painter, he's down there; and Christopher Wren himself is down there as well.
"[When Elbow play I hope they'll be] grooving. As much as one can groove to our music."
The 'Grounds for Divorce' hitmaker recently said he and his bandmates are even considering marking the occasion by dressing as the deceased.
He tweeted: "at the @absoluteradio st pauls crypt gig would it be bad taste for elbow to dress as the famous and interred? (sic)"
"bagsy nelson or donne. how do you dress as wren? (sic)"
Elbow will perform at St Paul's Cathedral on May 26th. The performance will be broadcast on Absolute Radio on the June 5 from 7pm and will then be available to view from www.absoluteradio.co.ukPosted on 25 May 2011 08:30 to category : Music News
