Electric guitar players told to be flexible on stage

Electric guitar players who perform in a band have been told to be flexible in a live situation.

According to Dave Hunter of Gibson, many musicians are unable to completely recreate the guitar sound they have perfected at home, because the tonal requirements of a venue vary every night.

He has therefore encouraged electric guitar players to avoid being too precious about their sound and be willing to tweak it if they need to during a gig.

"When you get your tone set up in soundcheck, then find it is lost in the ether once the band kicks in, don't be too stubborn to change it," he stated.

However, Mr Hunter advised against simply turning up the volume control on a guitar amp, and instead suggested altering the tone and gain controls.

He added that a musician could also improve their electric guitar sound by taking simple steps such as putting on some fresh strings.

This comes shortly after Mr Hunter suggested that musicians experiment with different set-ups when using guitar effects pedals on stage.
