Electric guitar suits many genres, says expert
According to Martin Gladu, the instrument was often used as an "object of spectacle" by rock musicians such as Jimi Hendrix and Pete Townshend of The Who.
However, he told All About Jazz that the electric guitar can often take on an equally powerful role in other types of music.
For example, Mr Gladu stated that noted jazz musicians such as Django Reinhardt and Eddie Lang have used their guitar in a far more stylised and introspective way than their rock counterparts.
He said this way of playing proved to be very influential to other jazz guitarists in later years.
"The instrument has undergone an impressive development in the jazz world," Mr Gladu commented.
A recent list of the world's greatest electric guitar players by Time magazine was largely dominated with rock musicians, including Hendrix, Chuck Berry, Eric Clapton and Jimmy Page.Posted on 27 Aug 2009 12:05 to category : Instruments News
