Electric guitar titan Hubert Sumlin has died
Sumlin, who inspired generations of great guitar players like Eric Clapton and Jimmy Page, shot to fame in the late 50s as a key member of Howlin' Wolf's band.
In an interview with the New York Times earlier this year, Sumlin remarked how he still wanted to win a Grammy Award, having been nominated three times.
Though he travelled with an oxygen tank, he was still actively touring and playing on his beloved electric guitar.
The oxygen was needed because after being diagnosed with cancer and undergoing treatment, he eventually had his cancerous lung removed.
"Our dear friends… It is with a heavy heart that the worse has come to fruition. My little Hubert is living the life of a real angel. I'm overwhelmed with grief and so I really need to pull myself together. I'd really appreciate it if you would kindly respect our privacy during this most difficult time," his manager Toni Ann said on his website.
