Eliza Doolittle not like Lily
Eliza Doolittle has hit out against comparisons between her and Lily Allen.
The 'Skinny Genes' singer said she doesn't agree with people who associate her retro infused, tongue in cheek pop songs with those of 'The Fear' hitmaker Lily, and that anyone who listens properly will notice distinct differences between the two.
She told Recognise magazine: "I don't agree with it at all. We have a completely different style and anyone who actually listened to our music would know that, it's nothing like what I do."
22-year-old Eliza - who scored a UK Top five hit with her song 'Pack Up' - also said she's glad her music career is working out; because she didn't do well enough in school for anything else.
She added: "There were times when I thought, 'Oh gosh, what if it doesn't work?' But I always shook it off because I never had a choice. Since I'm no good at anything else, it had to work. So I just focussed and strived to do well.
"I think my parents did want me to go to university just in case but neither my mum or dad went to uni, so they couldn't talk. I do wish I'd taken my academic studies a bit more seriously because I'd love to be more knowledgeable, but at the time I just wanted to leave and do something else, I rushed to get on in the world. I did OK in my GCSE's - I wanted to do as well as I could but I got quite average grades."
Eliza's self titled debut album is available now. The full interview with the singer is in the Sept-Oct issue of Recognise Magazine, which is also out now.Posted on 21 Sep 2010 07:00 to category : Band / Celebrity News
