Engelbert for Eurovision, say BBC
The TV event attracts the viewing attention of about 120 million people each year, but that's still 30 million fewer than the number of records the singer has sold, according to a BBC statement.
Head of entertainment at the BBC, Katie Taylor, has said that Humperdinck is the most 'established' British Eurovision entry for decades, calling him a 'musical legend'.
"It's an absolute honour to be representing my country for this year's Eurovision Song Contest," said the singer, who is apparently still touring.
"When the BBC approached me, it just felt right for me to be a part of an institution like Eurovision. I'm excited and raring to go and want the nation to get behind me!"
The singer's song choice hasn't been confirmed, but the BBC say that Sacha Skarbek – who has previously been involved with women of the moment Lana Del Rey and Adele – has been involved in its creation.
This year's contest is being held, as per tradition, by Azerbaijan, who won last year.
Semi-finals for the contest take place before the final, one on the 22nd and another on the 24th of May, according to the official competition website.
