Entire school class 'learns to play musical instruments'
Pupils at a school in Colchester are learning to play musical instruments, with an entire class of 32 youngsters taking up the hobby.
Headteacher at St Teresa's School Frances Booker told the Daily Gazette the year five class's efforts are "amazing".
The pupils practice together once a week, taking the items home with them in the meantime to hone their skills.
Ms Booker said: "Some are having private lessons and others are just learning in school.
"It looks very striking when they are all playing together, like their own orchestra."
They have already learnt how to play Hot Cross Buns, under the instruction of their teacher Peter Ivey, who is set to teach them Frere Jacques to perform at the school's summer concert.
Paul McManus, chief executive officer of the Music Industries Association, recently suggested all schoolchildren should be given the chance to play good-quality musical instruments on a regular basis.
He spoke after the publication of the Henley Review into music education, which recommended maintaining music's place in the national curriculum and advised purchasing more instruments in the future.
