Epiphone Casino used in recording of Smiths' classic
In an article by Gibson columnist Chuck Crisafulli looking into great guitar sounds, he praised the "inventive and chilling" tremolo and slide sounds that Johnny Marr came up with for the track.
"The tremolo was achieved by recording an Epiphone Casino through one amp, then playing the resulting track through four amps with vibrato effects, which was rerecorded in short segments to keep the timing lined up," Mr Crisafulli explained.
He added that Marr managed to produce with the slide sound by a multi-tracking a guitar through a number of harmonisers, giving the song an extremely memorable sound.
Since the break-up of The Smiths, Marr has gone on to perform with a number of other groups including Modest Mouse and is currently a member of The Cribs.
