Facebook users aim to stop X Factor getting Christmas number one
Music fans are aiming to get thrashy electric guitars to the top of the festive charts instead of The X Factor winner.
According to the Sun, a Facebook campaign to get Killing In the Name by Rage Against The Machine to number one on Christmas Day has been launched.
More than 400,000 people have so far joined the group in the hope of breaking The X Factor's monopoly on the top spot at Christmas.
Darren Haines, spokesperson for bookmaker Paddy Power, commented: "According to where punters are putting their money, Rage Against The Machine have emerged as the unlikeliest candidates in the race for the Christmas No1."
However, the song's chances of denting the charts could be damaged by its lyrics, as it contains several expletives.
This comes after Seal warned that The X Factor could potentially harm the music industry.
Speaking to the Daily Star, he said that while it is an entertaining programme, contestants are mainly interested in becoming famous.
As a result, they are less focused on developing as an artist.Posted on 10 Dec 2009 18:00 to category : Music News
